Feltmaker's Design Award
Felt hat made as part of NTU's millinery module. Inspired by NBC's Hannibal show. Constructed using ivory felt, a custom felt deer skull, fabric flowers and dyed feathers.
Research and Techniques
Drawing inspiration by the art in Hannibal, chose elements that reflected the show's approach to the morbid and designed a hat to reflect the beauty in death.
Using hard construction foam, sculpted a deer skull and then adapted to felt. Experimented with dyes to achieve the correct shade for the feathers and hand-shaped. Using stiffened fabric, produced various flowers that were then dry-brushed with acrylics to add depth and detail.
